Provisioning
Generally each boat will provision for all breakfasts, most lunches and three dinners to be prepared and eaten on board – refer to the itinerary for the planned onshore schedule.
This is not a hard and fast rule, you’ll find on occasion that you might grab an extra lunch or dinner ashore
Moorings and Sunsail each offer a provisioning service where you order online ahead of time and your provisions will be stowed on your boat upon arrival. You will need your contract number and you must place your online order a minimum of one week prior to your charter. This is a very convenient option but can entail a steep markup on the cost of goods compared to a supermarket, and you may find unplanned substitutions where items ordered were not available.
Grocery stores are plentiful within a short distance from the marina, ranging from large supermarkets to smaller, specialized stores.
Riteway Supermarket. They offer a shuttle bus back to the marina, available on request, otherwise it’s only five mins by taxi. You can walk there, and taxi or shuttle back. You can order provisioning ahead of time but note they are notorious for including some very strange substitutions!
Bobby’s Supermarket. Smaller grocery store, about ten minutes via taxi. Crews often find those odd, few items here that were not available at the larger stores.
OneMart Superstore. Ten mins by taxi.
French Deli. Located within walking distance, just outside the Moorings Yacht Club. This store has excellent breads and pastries, and some hard to find nice French wines.
Steakacation Butchers. Located right where you turn off the main road for the marina.
Caribbean Cellars. For beer, wine and liquor. Located adjacent to Steakcation Butchers.
Moorings Market. Located inside the Moorings Yacht Club complex it carries staples and alcohol.
Leftover non-perishables will be gladly taken off your hands by a neighboring boat that is departing as you arrive back to base, or by the dock hands and boat cleaning staff at the marina. It’s a great way to tip them for their amazing work!
Leftover drinks will also be gladly accepted by the marina staff. You will work out with your skipper an appropriate level of alcohol for the week depending on everybody’s preference for wine, beer, spirits, mixers and soft drinks.
You may bring small items that will contribute to cooking tasty meals, such as specific dried herbs, oils, etc. – discuss with your crew mates and skipper when agreeing on provisions. Remember, any items you bring will need to be small and unopened. Fruits and vegetables are not permitted to be brought into the BVI.
Make sure you let your skipper know of any food allergies or dietary needs.
Feel free to add or purchase separately any items that you specifically need or will make the week more enjoyable for you.
Duty free is a good way to grab a few bottles of any drinks you can’t find on provisioning lists.
